Good day everyone, and happy September!!! We hope everyone is staying motivated to finish this last third of the year paving the way for the success that lies ahead. Although the rain is known to shower down on us all this month, let’s add a little sunshine to our home and lives by keeping it clean! Last month, we provided tips and information about the differences between cleaning and sanitizing, and how to properly accomplish both. For this month I wanted to add some tips for all the furry pet owners, and the practices that we can all apply to our daily routines to live in a cleaner and healthier environment with our pets.
As pet owners, we treat our little fur babies like a part of the family, which is how it should be. However, at times we may forget to keep our pets and their living spaces as clean as can be. This can add odors to our homes, and it can also spread germs and bacteria, which makes it harder to keep our homes shiny and clean. I know that we live busy lives and trying to stay on top of our responsibilities can sometimes lead us to ignore other ones that may be affecting our pets living environment. I have cats and dogs in my family, and these are some things that I would recommend to keep them clean.
For Furry Pets – One simple thing that we can do for pets that have collars is make sure we clean them routinely, because their collars keep dirt on their necks spread odors (if not washed or cleaned frequently).
Pro-tip… The National Cat Groomers Institute of America recommends a bathΒ once every 4-6 weeks, and sometimes collars can become smelly and dirty before that so it’s good to keep an eye on it. For dogs, every two weeks is a good time to bathe them, because it is recommended to not do it more than once a week and at least once a month.
In one of our posts from earlier in the year I mentioned the importance of keeping a clean bed. It is equally as important to keep the bedding of our pets clean by using pet-friendly laundry detergents. There are several brands like LaundraPet, Seventh Generation Free and Clear, and others that can be easily found on Amazon. If the bedding has plush toys, those too can be placed in the laundry along with the bedding. If your pets use pads, replace the pads as they are used to keep it fresh in the home.
I am sure we all like to eat on clean tables with clean plates. So do your pets! It is very healthy for your pet to keep a clean bowl of water and a clean bowl of food. In order to keep away bacteria and odors we recommend you wash your pet’s bowls every day. It is also good to wash a pet’s toy once a week to clean it from germs and bacteria.
For Furry Pet Owners – Previously on a post earlier this year, we touched on the subject of keeping it green and keeping it clean! Many green-friendly cleaning products are pet-friendly, and there are also many pet-friendly cleaners one can use to make sure it is safe for our pets. Brush your pet’s fur to avoid fur from accumulating around the home, and vacuuming routinely around the house helps as well. For our furniture not to smell like our pets, baking soda works miracles. By letting it sit for about 20 minutes and then using the vacuum to pick up the powder the odor our pets leave behind disappear. There are also pet-friendly odor eliminating sprays for pets so that the home can remain fresh and clean.
